Not likely.: Fatty liver is normally painless, but can cause your liver tests to be elevated. The gall bladder is right next to your liver, so sometimes that is the culprit for right upper abdominal pain. Gallbladder problems also tend to be caused by the same types of food that cause fatty liver, so talk to your doc if this has not been checked. If your pain continues, look for another cause.

Possible, not likely: One of the most common causes of right upper quadrant pain involves the gallbladder which resides just near the liver. The gallbladder stores necessary enzymes that digest fats and the gallbladder as well as the duct can get inflamed causing pain. Many liver conditions, such as Fatty Liver, do not cause pain.

Unlikely: Fatty liver disease is generally asymptomatic, at least until it progresses to cirrhosis and liver failure. Since you have MILD fatty liver, it's likely that something else is causing your pain. People with fatty liver disease often have gallstones which can cause pain in that area. Irritable bowel, inflammatory bowel and diverticuli are also potential culprits. You need to ask your doctor.
