Sedation by Zyrtec (cetirizine): Zyrtec (brand name for cetirizine), can be sedating and cause dizziness in up to 13% of patients. You don't tell me what you take the drug for, so I can't tell if taking it as needed is OK. First, take Zyrtec only before going to bed, it lasts 24 hours. You can try 1/2 tablet, still effective. If not tolerated, try fexofenadine (Allegra).

Yes: Even though zyrtec is a newer generation antihistamine, it may still cause dizziness in some people. If the dizziness bothers you a lot, why don't you try claritin (loratadine) or allegra. It's okay to take the medicine as needed. Each dose of zyrtec should be cleared out of the body after about 32 to 36 hours.
