Old anti malarial rx: It was used forever as a medication both to treat and also to prevent malaria around the world. As with other meds he became ineffective against the malaria organism and better tolerated meds were discovered as were more effective ones. The med, called plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is now used to treat autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Hope this is helpful. .
