A 34-year-old female asked:

I have had idiopathic hypersomnia for years. osa negative. was prescribed nuvigil, insurance denied it. am on 20 mg adderall, (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) but still fall asleep during the day for hours. wake up feeling awful-help?

May be on wrong dose: If the adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) that you take is a tablet, then it is only designed to last 4-6 hours. So if your mornings, are super and alert but the afternoons are sleep city then you should visit with your doctor about either an xr capsule that lasts 10-12 hours or adding a second tablet about lunchtime. Nuvigil is still the rx of choice, so if your dr submits a PA with a dx of narcolepsy and the sleep study,
