Tooth infection: Certainly severe pain, soreness when eating or drinking, swelling of the surrounding tissue etc. and of course seeing the dentist, will let you know you have an infection.

Pain and swelling: Look for these signs: Pain Swelling Redness Discharge Fevers Headaches If you see these signs go to your local dentist. Tooth infections can progress to infections of the jaw bone and skull.
