Yes it is OK: Our heart rate slows significantly while asleep. In an otherwise healthy person we can expect HR of 50's. Forty is however a little slow. Check EKG for any Heart Block consult cardiology if needed.

May be normal: This is usually normal in healthy individuals. It could be associated with sleep apnea as well, especially if overweight.
