A member asked:

I have a pfo and asa only determined by agitated saline bubble study is this dangerous and can the asa rupture? i was told this kind does not.

Dr. Jesus Yap answered

No: Atrial septal aneurysm(ASA) is a redundant or floppy membranous atrial septum . It does not rapture but it is reported that a clot can form in the"pouch" that can cause a stroke in otherwise normal person when seen together with a PFO. This is highly debated in medicine. It probably occurs but rarely as a lot of people with the same thing are fine. No treatment if found by accident
