Gastroenteritis: The symptoms could be due to a variety of things - viral or bacterial gastroenteritis, colitis (inflammation of the colon) or possibly diverticulitis (an inflammation of sacs which have herniated from the large intestine). While infectious gastroenteritis is self limiting in a few days, if the symptoms persist, you should see your doctor. You may need a culture of the stool and check for parasites
