Impacted canine: Sounds like you're having an impacted upper canine tooth exposed for orthodontic treatment. If that's correct, the flap could be even larger than you describe. However, it will feel to your tongue like a large hole. If you're concerned, speak to your oral surgeon abou the size of the flap. Your description certainly does not sound too large. Good luck!

Flap: If this is a free gingival flap for periodontal reasons the size is normal.

Size is important: There are many factors for incomplete or failure of root coverage autograft, inadequate graft size is one of them. For a single root coverage, size 1cm X 1.5 cm is very conservative and adequate. Proper thickness between 1.0 and 1.5 mm is more important factor for survival of the graft. Hope it helps.

Exact size is: unimportant. The flap is as large as needed for the surgical procedure. Large and small flaps heal in the same length of time. If you need details, the oral surgeon can describe his/her plan in detail.
