Uric acid effect: Patients with gout ( a form of arthritis) have elevated uric acid levels. There are reports in the literature where there is evidence that deposits of uric acid crystals in the eyes of patient with gout have caused damage to eye structures such as the sclerotic, the choroid and the bacillary layer of the retina and cases of episcleritis have occurred concomitantly with an acute episode of gout.
