Dependant : You have become physically and mentally dependant on these drugs to sleep, and will eventually need higher and higher doses to get the same effect. 200 mg of diphenhydramine is a very high dose with side effects of dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, and daytime sleepiness. Xanax (alprazolam) is highly addictive. Have your doctor wean you from these medications slowly to avoid withdrawal and seizures.

Addiction: Addiction is the primary danger, and inefficacy (sleeping drugs don't fundamentally work very we'll after so long). To get off these drugs you will need the help of a good sleep specialist or psychiatrist or addictionologist.
