Wish someone could explain why my son (9) and i both get canker sores every month- sometimes a couple. my daughter (13) never does. feel bad for him.

Inflammatory disease: Recurrent stomatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease the cause is still unknown. Factors predisposing patients to recurrent aphthous ulcers (canker sores) may include trauma, emotional stress, poor nutritional status, thiamine deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency,celiac disease, menstruation, food hypersensitivity (eg, cow's milk) allergic reactions, exposure to toxins.

Genetics: Assuming that your children's dad is fortunate to not have frequent canker sores, it's probably a genetic dichotomy. Talk to your Dentist. There are treatments available that may help you and your son feel better when you duo have an outbreak.
