Radiating pain: The pain you describe sounds like you may have a nerve impingement syndrome like "sciatica" that is affecting your R leg. The regular X-ray will not shoe nerve entrapment. You can try Physical therapy and stretching with nsaids, but if you do not improve, you may need an MRI and follow-up with the Ortho. Good luck.

Lumbar disc: pathology may be diagnosed with an MRI - that being said - even with an abnormal MRI, the treatment would usually initially still be conservative -physical therapy and pain control. Surgery is considered when the pain is excruciating or you have red flag symptoms- fever or bowel//bladder incontinence. Good news is pain usually gets better, the bad news-it may return.
