Clenching: Clenching can indeed cause damage to supporting bone and can cause muscle soreness as well as jaw joint problems. Especially if accompanied by grinding (bruxism), a trauma reducing mouth guard (occlusal orthotic)/biofeedback/muscle relaxants/exercises/stress relief can be helpful. See your Dentist.
