Swollen foot: Plantar fasciitis pain involves the arch of the foot and most often the heel. Morton's neuroma involves the ball of the foot and toes. Your finding of swelling brings into consideration the possibility of a stress fracture. The info from the MRI should help in making the correct diagnosis.

Here are some ...: What you worried about is genuine and you're not alone because all the medical care is based on "indirect" evidence resulting from professional continual collection & analysis of available experience so the treating Doc makes a best possible judgment to proceed with care. At times, surgical exploration may be the "only" way to verify what is going on and causing your pain. This is reality of life!

Fasciitis vs neuroma: A neuroma is a swollen nerve in the ball of the foot that usually occurs under and just below and between the 3rd and 4th toes, second most common is in a similar area below the 2nd and 3rd toes. Usually a burning/numb type of pain. Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the ligament in the sole of the foot most commonly is in the heel, second most common in the arch itself.
