3yo has croup. doc gave him redipred, just gave to him(4pm) can i give him more in night if he starts couphing?

No: This is not a cough medicine, it is a steroid. Giving him more sooner than prescribed is not going to help, and may really upset his stomach. Give as prescribed. If worse during night, take him into a shower and sit in there 15-20 minutes in the steam.

12-24 hours: Prednisone can typicallly be give every 12 to 24 hours. It is not a quick relief medication. If he has croup, breathing moist cool air may help. If he is having any distress or changes in coloration, he would need to be seen right away.

Steroid use: Redipred is a steroid that is very helpful for croup, but should only be taken as directed. Usually the dose is once per day unless you were instructed to give it more often I wouldn't give more tonight. You can try steaming up the bathroom or breathing in cold air if he's coughing a lot. If he has trouble breathing call your doctor.

Unlikely to need it: a dose of oral steroids at 4pm almost always keeps croup at bay for about 24 hours. plan on giving a 15-20 minute steamy bathroom exposure, followed by 10-15 minutes of cold dry air( such as obtained by opening up the freezer and letting child breath the cold air that emanates)
