Not necessarily ...: It's not uncommon with an active or resolving bronchitis to bring up colored sputum. Often it represents your immune system's inflammatory response to an infection. Be aware, it can be a sign of some irritation of the airways and old blood(though this is usually dark). If you start coughing up any sputum with blood or blood clots or black material please contact your primary care doctor ASAP!
