Some protection: Yes, it does provide some protection as the antibodies you produce do cross to her. The amounts from this are not as much as her immune system naturally would build from her getting her infant vaccine of DTaP, so make sure she is also getting her shots at the appropriate age to ensure optimal protection. Whooping cough is becoming epidemic in many parts of this country again!

Yes and no: Your TdaP makes sure you will not carry pertussis from your outside life to the baby, but the antibodies you pass have minimal benefit for these conditions.The antibodies in breast milk are secretory IGA that helps some by preventing germs from adhering to the digestive tract.Only the babies shots will help develop strong enough protection to avoid the illnesses prevented by the vaccine.
