In later pregnancy, a combination of increased fluid requirements and having a mass in your belly (the pregnant uterus) is the culprit. In both cases, pushing fluids, water mainly, is key. A finer-type laxative will help hold the water in the stool. Finally, no, this does not hurt the baby.
