A member asked:

My child always vomits with in minutes after getting enbrel shot even with zofran (ondansetron) down her. is this normal? any advice on how to prevent this ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Conditioned response: Vomiting reflex is controlled in brain medulla--one part receives nerve impulses from GI tract, the other is a chemical receptor. Both have nerve connections to not only the GI tract (pharynx, mesenteric vessels, bile ducts) but also from brain corticobulbar areas that mediate smells, sights, & taste. Thus, vomiting apparatus responds to a variety of GI & brain inputs. Do all shots make her vomit?
