Saline: Using salt water drops to the nose will help him to expel the excess mucus that he has in his nose. I like for parents to put in a drop and swirl it around to loosen the mucus. Propping him to sleep may help. It is ok to give him herbal fruit tea (warm) to loosen mucus in his throat. I like the apple cinnamon and lemon zinger. Cold medications are not recommended by mouth in this age group.

Ask an ENT: Start with saline spray and bulb suction. Ask an ENT about allergies and adenoids. See http://www.Richmondent.Com/ear-nose-throat/pediatric-ent.Php.
