Let try to help: Many conditions could cause this problems your wife have, from bone point of view i notice having disease of the large bowels mainly (crohn disease or ulcerative colitis or any auto immune disease could cause this condition. Please discuss it with your doctor.Good luck thank you.

Need more info: If ct scan, biliary sonogram, hydascan (looks for blockage of flow of bile), upper endoscopy, ERCP (looks into comman bile duct leading from liver) and colonoscopy have been done, then i would have to ask if she has any problems with constipation or takes regular laxatives.
