See a specialist: If you are worried that you may have pain or complications after the root canal and since you had a bad experience I would strongly recommend that you ask your general dentist for a referral to an Endodontist. You will be fine.

Root canal: You should see an endodontist for the best outcome for your root canal. They are well trained in getting patients numb and making this procedure as comfortable. Make time because the source of the pain is removed you feel much better very quickly. Make sure that you follow up with your dentist and protect the tooth with a crown.

Root Canal Therapy: Not having the proper dental treatment by a qualified dentist will hurt more not only in terms of pain but in the pocketbook over time. There is absolutely no reason why a competent dentist, preferably an Endodontist can't get you 100% numb for the procedure. Postponing treatment only increases the risks and decreases the prognosis for success. Perhaps you just need to find a good dentist.

See an endodontist : An endodontist is a dentist who has completed a 2 or 3 year specialty program beyond dental school that focuses on root canal therapy. Most endodontists use modern technology such as operating microscopes, digital imaging, ultrasonic instrumentation and fiber optics. They also use painless anesthesia technique. Good luck.
