Blood pooling : The black discoloration is typically blood pooling from the bruising from the trauma. A fractured toe treatment is to buddy tape it to the toe next to it. Ice may help swelling and pain. If it was the great toe (first digit)that was injured we become more concerned and it may need an X-ray.
