Specializes in General Surgery

Better identified: Catamenial pneumothorax was once thought to be uncommon, but in some accounts, up to one third of cases of spontaneous pneumothoraces in women referred for surgery have this as the cause. At video-assisted thoracic surgery, diaphragmatic defects and nodules are the most frequent findings. Pathology shows endometriosis in most instance. Treatment is surgical and hormone suppression.
