Chest tube: If the patient has a pneumothorax which is symptomatic, causing difficulty breathing, a chest tube should be inserted to re-inflate the lung. This is generally placed between the ribs and into the pleural space. The chest tube may be a traditional one placed by surgery. (These tend to be larger). A radiologist may place it under image guidance, such as CT scanning. Either should work fine.

I agree : Most of these are Emergency situations.I do prefer larger tubes insertions in ER Dept.or at bed side if pt is hospitalized.
