Occurs with cycle: These pneumothoracis occur in relation to the monthly menstrual cycle. They appear to be related to abnormal (ectopic) endometrial tissue in the lung, in essence endometriosis of the lung. The tissue is hormonally responsive and "slough" with cycle, leaving small hole in lung tissue. This leads to an "air leak" forming a pneumothorax.
