Is it normal for my period to start off light and on and off for the first day of my period?

Probably: That's not too uncommon, although everybody's period seems to be a little different. This could be totally normal for you. Does this happen every month? If so, then I really wouldn't be too concerned. If not, it could just be a fluke this month, unless the whole period is super light and only lasts a day or two in which case I'd take a pregnancy test.

Period light first: When you are experiencing the first few days of your period (or sometimes your last), you can have slower rate of bleeding. This can often be seen as just brown blood or lighter bleeding, as opposed to the bright red you're used to. This is common, and nothing to worry about. Best wishes.
