Sort of.....: When a girl first gets her period, her body is often not ready yet to give us a normal monthly period. It can take a year or more to really regulate before we get a text book "period." Most of the time we just need to be patient, but sometimes, especially if there is prolonged and heavy bleeding, medication is used to prevent excess blood loss. It sounds like you should visit your doctor.

Menstrual cycle: When you first start your menses it is normal for it to be irregular for up to the first year of your cycle. Your body is getting used to the fluctuations of your hormonal levels. Keep a calendar of when you start and finish your cycle. Typically it will be 28 days from when it starts to when it starts again. The length of time that you bleed will vary. Take a multivitamin with iron daily
