Go see your doctor: Probably need to have your doctor listen to your heart and have an EKG done to detect any electrical abnormalities. If those are normal, may consider the issue being more related to anxiety or panic symptoms. You mention hopelessness so I can't help but wonder if you suffer from depression and anxiety which could certainly cause those symptoms. See your doc.

Not sure: sharp pains are not likely related to the heart . the palpitations could be the cause or the result of whats going on . A cardiac event recorder an echo ,as well as some labs may be helpful.
