Not unusual: The pain and swelling, as well as occasional bruising associated with root canal therapy can occur whether the procedure was performed by a new endodontist or by a seasoned endodontist. Is the comment regarding being "rough" and "hard" related to your inability to keep your mouth open during the treatment? You may consider asking for a mouthprop if you require additional dental procedures.

Normal: Low grade pain is normal following an endo procedure as is slight swelling. Bruising is usually caused from the injection and is unavoidable. An endodontic procedure is time consuming and a few patients have a hard time staying open which is frustrating for the dentist and patient. Would you rather lose your tooth?
