Sometimes: In a population study of people found to have aortic sclerosis by routine echo,16% develop aortic stenosis of varying degrees during about 12 years. Most are mild to moderate but in 1.5% it is severe indicating that there is faster progression in certain groups. The risk factors for progression include hypertension,diabetes,cholesterol ,smoking similar to those for coronary vascular disease
