Gas/ovarian cyst: Appendicitis is rarely sharp or intermittent. It generally presents as vague ,dull pain that progressively worsens, starting often around the umbilicus and settling very painfully in the right lower quadrant, and does not go away. Intermittent sharp pain is a pattern more suggestive of transient movement of gas.In women it is also commonly associated with ovulation and ovarian cysts.
