Blockage: Appendicitis is almost always due to blockage of the mouth of the appendix where it empties into the intestine...The back mpressure due to the blockage cause swelling of the appendix which compresses the veins and then the arteries of the appendix leading to the complications of appendicitis such as rupture and abcess.

Appendicitis ...: comes from obstruction of the lumen of the appendix which causes inflammation to build up. If it is not recognized early on and appropriately treated, the appendix can rupture, spreading infection elsewhere in the abdomen and causing severe illness.
