No: Asthma is a genetically linked problem that leads to changes in the natural mechanisms in the lung. Much of the wheezing in small children is not asthma and will be outgrown by late childhood. True asthma varies in its impact on many and can be very mild or very bad.Even those who have been off meds for years and without wheezing events can become symptomatic under the proper circumstances.
