Exam: You should be examined at a local ER or urgent care center: it is not just the bruising, but the calf pain which is concerning.

Bruise.: If you can see it it is a bruise- blood outside a vessel but under skin. Many seem to happen "spontaneously" although there is generally an unrecognized traumatic component. Size and shape of the bruise is dependent upon a lot of local factors but is not significant in any prognostic way. "Bruises" do not become clots of the kind that travel to the heart and lungs.
