A member asked:

What to do if i have had shingles before but not chicken pox, can i still get chicken pox?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: If you have had shingles, you somehow acquired the virus that causes chickenpox in the past. A full 96% of adults who think they never had Cpx test positive on blood tests for antibodies to the disease. This can include infection while in the womb. Shingles is a reactivation of the Cpx virus and never happens without a prior Cpx infection.
