Have a new hernia?: An inguinal hernia is an outward bulge from the inguinal canal, and into this (or for that matter any abdominal hernia) may project abdominal contents, like the intestines. Hernias don't "go into" the intestines, its the other way around. When the gut gets trapped in the hernia there is a risk that portion of the intestine may die with dire consequences.
