A member asked:

I am a family doctor. i would like my 12 year old daughter to volunteer in my clinic this summer. are there any hipaa constraints?

Once all applicable: HIPPA regulations are abided by. She must understand to keep everything she sees/conversations she observe confidential. Given level of comprehension in a 12 y.o., you may want to have her avoid certain patient interactions, so she is not tempted to talk about it. But answering phones, escorting pts, grabbing charts (if she will not violate regulations), helping w/ EKG, etc. should be ok.
