Depression: I see you have issues with depression, from your history. Call your doctor. If you are in counseling, this is another choice. Random loss like this is so sad, but your grief seems out of proportion. Please seek help.

Needs some work: This has likely resurrected some unresolved grief issues you have been suppressing for some time, or are anticipating in the near future. You need to contact an unrelated counselor and explore what you stated above. When you can find the trigger, you can work on getting past it in a more productive way.
