Usually normal: Nerves, muscles and vessels traumatized during blood sticks. Ice helps. Tylenol (acetaminophen).

Look at area: It is not unusual to have a mild amount of pain and a swelling the size of a dime or a quarter after an intravenous (IV) needle is removed. If the area is red, larger than that, or has a red streak, tenderness, and runs up your arm, it could be serious - phlebitis or an infection. Much depends on the medicine that was injected through the IV. If it looks like that go to urgent care or Emergency.
