Yes it could: Yes, it could be a muscle pain. However, if it persists, start looking for other possible causes, including a lumbar disc irrigating the nerve root, or even a less likely urine back flow (reflux) to the kidney.

Pulled a rib muscle after sneezing recovery time?
Left side by lowest rib tender when pressed on. Also hurts when sneezing or cough and when tightening stomach. I dont cough much. Clear my throat kind of cough. Doesnt hurt accept with those movements. Strained muscle or something more serious?
MRI for back/leg pain shows 2 herniated lumbar discs-begun also having R-arm weakness, trigger thumb, lock jaw, muscle twitching/spasms multiple areas-tingling in face, limbs, upper back-zap down spine/rib pain from sneeze/yawn- need further tests?
