A member asked:

How often should a person with cirrhosis get screened for liver cancer?

7 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

6 months: Every 6 months with an ultrasound and AFP blood test. We alternate ultrasound with annual ct scan or MRI of the liver at our center as the ultrasound has some limitations in cancer detection.

6 months: Current mayo guidelines are alternating ct and ultrasound every 6 months. I typically also check AFP every 6 months.

6-12 months: An ultrasound of the liver and appropriate bloodwork should be done every six to twelve months to screen for liver cancer in a person with cirrhosis.
