No harm: Frequent computer use, including laptop use, can be drying (use drops for this) and fatiguing but definitely not harmful. Otherwise the neighborhood around users of computers would be flooded with eye doctors (like Microsoft, or Apple).

Laptop use: In addition to the good advice you already received, please remember to look away from the computer periodically and move your eyes around now and then. You can look to the left and right every 15 minutes and move eyes around the screen now and then as you work. This helps prevent drying eyes and fatigue from staring at the same spot. Possibly dry eyes: It's not going to change your eyesight prescription but it will decrease your blinking rate--by as much as 5 times--and that can lead to a type of dry eye. You should take frequent breaks and use artificial tears and blinking exercises so your blinks stay full and don't become partial.
