Why would your eyes ever flash or do a strobe effect in the dark?

See eye MD: Flashing lights seen in the dark imply a mechanical stimulation of the retina. The most common cause is a posterior vitreous detachment, usually a benign process. If you see a dark curtain coming over your eye, see an eye MD emergently. Otherwise, schedule an appointment.
