A 29-year-old female asked:

are any of these meds diuretics: prednisone, phenergan, (promethazine) lomotil, bentyl? i take them together and after a couple hours, i have to pee every 10 minutes

Not diuretics: These medications are not diuretics. If you urinate every 10 minutes, urinary tract infection has to be ruled out. See your doctor. Bentyl (dicyclomine) has anticholinergic side effects and might be responsible for urinary disturbances, usually difficulty to start urination.

Maybe. Notify MD: Liver disorders can cause dark urine. Discolored urine can also be caused by certain foods, medication, and kidney infections. Also if you haven't been hydrating due to nausea, the next urine may come out darker than usual. The bottom line is, your physician should know about this so he/she can run more tests and get a better idea of what might be going on.

Many reasons: Urethritis is inflammation of the urine tube going through the penis. If inflammed due to infection, antibiotics should take care of it. If due to chemical irritation, the antibiotics will not. Trauma can cause irritation. You may need more time. If there is a discharge, you may need to be seen again. If concerned, seek re-evaluaiton.

You still need to repeat the urine culture. She may have some persistent dysuria from urethral inflammation. You might like to try Pyridium for a few days. She is old enough for 200mg 8 hrly. Smash the pills and mixx with apple sauce or yogourt etc. if she can't swallow pills.

Yes you can: There are medications which are helpful to control symptoms of IC. For frequency and urgency, anticholinergic can help ( oxybutinin, vesicare, (solifenacin) toviaz, etc.). For bladder pain, pentosan polysulfate, dmso, and antidepressent might help.

Common Reaction: The coloring in some foods (like beets) and medications can affect the color, smell, etc. Of your urine, stool, emesis, etc. Purple/red urine and stool after fresh beets is normal. (the difference between being more purple or more red, depends on the pH or acidity of the fluid.
