Destroys lung tissue: Pneumonia destroys the lung tissue which then destroys the gas exchange areas so carbon dioxide does not leave and oxygen does not enter in the bloodstream as well as a normal Lung woud. Repeated pneumonia infections can cause destruction of such areas. When someone has repeated pneumonias within a certain amount of time be it one month two months three months four months five months six months then the risk of worsening lung destruction occurs
