Autoimmune : Hashimito's Thyroiditis, Lupus, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, etc.. Need follow up tests like double stranded DNA antibody, smith antibody, anti thyroglobulin antibodies, plus some other that we routinely do for follow up testing. They would be more specific. ANA is a screening test. Although 1:40 is weak overall so I would suggesting doing the follow up tests

Not likely lupus: A full eval by a rheumatologist is needed for diagnosis.Lupus can present slowly with a very wide array of signs and symptoms depending on how active it is and what organ systems are affected.Inflammatory labs such as ESR should be elevated in active lupus but are not specific to lupus. An ANA test of 1:40 is really negative since 20-30% of all healthy people have this result.See a rheumatologist.
