No tumor: When standing, especially from lying down the blood flow dynamics to the heart and head and neck region change. The description of a similar effect with mild straining on the toilet is known as the Valsalva maneuver. Return of systemic blood to the heart is impeded by the pressure inside the chest. The output of the heart is reduced and stroke volume falls. This occurs from 5 to about 14 seconds
