I've been having tension type headaches for the past few days or so. it happens only at night and top/sides of the head. is this a brain tumor?

Highly unlikely: Your symptoms aren't at all the classical or common ones we hear from people who end up complaining of headaches which turn out to be associated with the growth of brain tumors. Headaches ONLY at night time for example & ONLY on the top & sides of the head (i.e. practically the whole head) & without focal neurological complaints do not suggest tumor. See doc for more information).
